The Challenge

The homeowners wanted to replace worn carpet in their second-floor bedrooms and upstairs hallway. The main challenge was a staircase with open spindles that required custom hand-tailored wrapping, as well as a patterned carpet style that needed precise seam matching across doorway thresholds.

Before

Our Approach

  1. Design & Measure: Our estimator calculated yardage and seam placement to minimize waste while ensuring all carpet pile ran in the same direction toward incoming room light.

  2. Tear-out & Subfloor Prep:
    • Removed old carpet and degraded padding.
    • Replaced damaged tack strips and reinforced loose wooden subfloor panels with screws to eliminate squeaks before laying pad.

  3. Pad Installation & Seaming: Installed high-density 8lb memory foam pad with a moisture-barrier top film. Fastened pad securely and sealed all pad seams with tape.

  4. Power Stretching & Tailoring:
    • Used a commercial power stretcher to anchor carpet across room spans per CRI-105 standards, preventing future wrinkles and ripples.
    • Heat-bonded seams using premium seam tape and a seam roller to keep join lines hidden.
    • Hand-wrapped and stapled each stair tread and riser tightly around spindles for a clean, tailored finish.

  5. Final Vacuum & Walkthrough: Vacuumed the carpet with a commercial pile-lifter, inspected seam integrity, and reviewed care guidelines with the homeowner.
